Join Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services in a pivotal role that will help tamariki and rangatahi build a positive identity and strengthen their whakapapa relationships.


The Kairaranga ā-whānau position at Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services is all about strengthening the identity and wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi by reconnecting them with their whakapapa.


Here's a quick summary of what the role involves:

  • Whakapapa Research: Working with whānau, hapū, iwi, kaumātua, and caregivers to identify and record whakapapa connections.
  • Decision-Making Support: Helping whānau identify key people within their wider networks who can contribute to decisions about the safety and wellbeing of tamariki.
  • Care Support: Assisting whānau to find potential caregivers within their own whānau or hapū.
  • Collaboration: Engaging with whānau and stakeholders to ensure culturally grounded, informed decisions are made.

The role requires strong relationship-building skills, cultural competency, and a deep understanding of tikanga Māori and whanaungatanga.


Additionally, you will support whānau to identify people who may be able to offer care to tamariki and rangatahi.



Ko wai matou e kimi ana? – Who we are looking for?


We are looking for an experienced individual who understands the importance of whakapapa and tikanga as foundational concepts to the work undertaken. You will have the ability to record three generations (tātai of the mokopuna concerned), including heke tika and karanga lines. An understanding and application of te reo

me ona tikanga as practiced reflecting our Ngāpuhi cultural identity, protocols, and whakapapa.


A qualification relevant to the responsibilities outlined, and sustained experience in a similar role are essential. You will be required to work in collaboration with other social services, including Oranga Tamariki. The successful candidate will hold clear and active networks and participation at marae, hapū and iwi.

Ngā whakamāramatanga mō te tūranga – About the role


The FFT Therapist provides support to all NISS teams by delivering FFT to referred clients - usually in the client's own home or other locations that work for them and at times that work for them. FFT (CW 0-18 years) is a short-term, intensive, evidence- based intervention for high needs young people and their families/whānau/aiga. FFT is a respectful, strengths-based approach which is sensitive to the unique challenges, diverse qualities, and strengths of whanau members.


Who are we looking for?

  • Full driver's license.
  • Tertiary qualifications in social services, mental health, or education.
  • Registered to one of the following:
  • Social Workers Registration Board
  • NZ Association of Counsellors
  • Drug and Alcohol Practitioners Association of Aotearoa / NZ
  • NZ Psychologists Board
  • The Occupational Therapists Board of NZ
  • The Psychotherapists Board of Aotearoa NZ

Pou Oranga /Team Leader

NGĀPUHI IWI SOCIAL SERVICES

Purpose of the Position

To lead a team that is responsible for delivering specific whanau-based services in either the Education, Health or justice areas or in specifically whanau centred situations. This could entail working in mokopuna safety and whakapapa protection, youth services and whānau centred approaches for the wellbeing of whānau, hapū and the wider Hāpori.
